Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University launched the International Polytechnic Winter School. At the opening ceremony on the site of the Technopolis, about 200 participants from around the world got together. Vice-Rector for International Relations Dmitry ARSENIEV welcomed foreign students on behalf of Polytechnic University. Dmitry ARSENIEV noted that in just 4 years the International Polytechnic Winter School has made a real breakthrough: while only about 30 people took part in the first school, in 2020, nearly 300 international students came to Polytechnic University. Among them, there are students even from far-away Australia who joined the community of the Polytechnics for the first time. “This shows that every year we make more and more friends around the world, and our programs, projects and educational modules meet your expectations. And these are not just words: according to the outcomes of federal projects, Peter the Great Polytechnic University was recognized as the leader among Russian universities for international summer and winter schools,” said the vice-rector of St. Petersburg Polytechnic University.
The guests of the ceremony also said warm words of greeting: Ms. Xu HAOYUAN, the Advancement support manager of Institutional Advancement Office, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, strategic partner of SPbPU; and Olga BORODINA, representative of the partner company Trest Sevzapjenergomontazh, CJSC wished success and fruitful study to international students of SPbPU. By the already established tradition, the students themselves addressed the audience: this year, student Joseph DZHORGES from the Technical University of Sydney, Australia, shared his first impressions of St. Petersburg and Polytechnic University with his fellow participants, and spoke about his expectations from the International Polytechnic Winter School.
This year, some 300 students from more than 30 countries took part in the International Polytechnic Winter School. The school consists of 17 programs in 9 areas, including space technology, information and digital technology, civil engineering, energy technology, business and management, humanities, etc. Upon graduation, students will receive international certificates with ECTS credits, which can be recognized at their home universities abroad.
For the first time, in 2020, SPbPU developed joint winter school programs with two leading Russian universities. Polytechnic University implements the Two Capitals module with the Russian Peoples’ Friendship University and the Machine Learning module with the National Research Technological University MISiS. Thus, participants in these programs will have a unique opportunity to study at several top Russian universities during one program: first in St. Petersburg, and then in Moscow.
In their leisure time, students will enjoy a rich cultural program: excursions to the key St. Petersburg museums, visits to enterprises and companies as part of the chosen educational programs, as well as unforgettable ice skating in the modern and creative space of Sevcable Port.
