Description

Application

― Nano-satellite system at a height of 400 – 600 km for information collection from ships and data transfer to the united terrestrial receiving center.
― Computer system of information display AIS for users (logistic companies, individuals, ship owners, etc.).

Feasibility

Modern AIS systems possess low efficiency due to high level of intrasystem noises caused by the ship signals in the satellite footprint. The losses of information about ship location because of these noises reach 90 %. Research into the increase of the ship detection validity is carried out by the European Space Agency (SAT-AIS project), companies ExactEarth (Canada) and Orbcomm (USA), joint stock company «Russian Space Systems». The project feature is an increase of detection validity in the satellite AIS. Research is conducted in two fields: satellite processing of received signal mixture based on Doppler filtration and terrestrial processing of group signal using the Blind Signal Separation algorithm.

Scientific and practical usefulness

Scientific relevance of the project is the development of a new way of collision control based on the Doppler filtration of the received signal. Practical usefulness of employing AIS is the establishment of international cooperation of universities and manufacturers to carry out research into the field of decollision S-AIS signal processing.

Resources and equipment

Equipment and database of SPbPU supercomputer. Terrestrial center of receiving information from low-orbit satellites (instruments for the tracking of satellite orbiting and the transmitted information collecting).

Results

― Satellite filter of S-AIS group signal;
― Algorithm of S-AIS group signal separation;
― Characteristics of the ship signal detection in the nano-satellite footprint and data of the space experiment on receiving and separation of S-AIS group signal;
― Computer network of the visualization of AIS data collection and providing services for interested users.
